- Install earlier versions of Office first. For example, install Office 2010 before installing Office 2013.

Make sure all versions of Office are either 32-bit or 64-bit. You cant have a mix of both.

If v2010 has the necessary updates it can open v2013 files.

As with all version changes their may be differences in how some of the add-ins perform. v2013 dropped support for both the uml and database modeling add-ins, so it is good to have both v2010 and v2013 if you are in an enterprise IT position.
